The Piano del Cerro from Vigneti del Vulture is a characterful red wine that beautifully reflects the unique terroir of the volcanic Monte Vulture in Basilicata. The wine is made exclusively from Aglianico, one of Southern Italy’s most prestigious grape varieties. Thanks to the mineral-rich volcanic soils, cool nights, and careful aging, the result is a wine with great depth, elegance, and impressive aging potential.
In the glass, the Piano del Cerro displays a deep ruby red color. The aroma is rich and complex, with notes of ripe black cherries, blackberries, and plums, complemented by nuances of tobacco, cocoa, licorice, vanilla, and subtle spices. After maturing for approximately fifteen months in French oak barrels, the wine gains additional refinement and a beautiful balance between fruit and wood.
On the palate, the wine is powerful and full-bodied, with firm yet ripe tannins and a lively freshness characteristic of Aglianico. The long, spicy finish leaves an elegant impression and invites the next sip.
It is not without reason that this wine is considered one of the finest expressions of Aglianico del Vulture: powerful and impressive in its youth, yet possessing the finesse and complexity to further develop after several years of bottle aging.
