Since 1906, the Bergqvist family has been the driving force behind Quinta de la Rosa. The estate covers 55 hectares and is located in Pinhão, in the heart of the Douro. Driven by passion, Tim Bergqvist and his daughter Sophia took full control of vinification and commercialization in 1988.
As oenologist, Jorge Moreira is ultimately responsible for quality. This talented young winemaker was brought on board to further improve the quality of both the Port and the table wines. Unlike most Port houses, Quinta de la Rosa does everything itself, from the vineyard to bottling. In addition to Port, an excellent wine and high-quality olive oil are also produced.
The vineyards benefit from their south/southeast-facing location, at an altitude of 100 to 450 meters in schist soil (slate). The grapes come from 8 different plots, each with its own typical microclimate. It is important to note that all of Quinta de la Rosa's vineyards are exceptionally situated and therefore fully classified as Class A. This is the absolute highest location rating that exists in the Douro. Quinta de la Rosa is currently investing heavily in a new vineyard and the planting of varieties including Touriga Nacional.
