Arillo in Terrabianca is located in the heart of Chianti Classico and is now a modern wine project with a strong focus on terroir and sustainability. The estate began a new chapter in 2019 when it was acquired by the Swiss-Italian Burkard family. Their ambition is clear: to craft wines with character and a distinct origin, while respecting nature and the environment.
Following the acquisition, the estate was renamed Arillo in Terrabianca and given a new identity. Even the logo was redesigned to symbolically represent the family: a castle as a sign of strength, two stars for their sons, and three hills representing the three estates they own. In addition to Terrabianca in Chianti Classico, these include Il Tesoro in the Maremma and Colle Brezza in the Val d’Orcia.
The family invested heavily in modernizing the vineyards and wine cellars. At the same time, they committed to organic farming, which has been officially implemented since 2023. An ambitious project is currently underway in Radda, featuring a new wine cellar, tasting rooms, a luxury hotel, and even cultural elements such as art and music, designed in collaboration with the renowned architect Mario Botta.
The vineyards of Terrabianca are situated at an altitude of 350 to 470 meters and derive their name from the remarkably light, calcareous soils. The Sangiovese grape dominates here, yielding elegant and refined Chianti Classico wines. Furthermore, a second estate, Il Tesoro on the Tuscan coast, provides a different expression: thanks to the warmer climate and the influence of the sea, more powerful and riper wines are produced there, often including international grape varieties.
Today, Arillo in Terrabianca stands for a harmonious combination of tradition and innovation, where respect for the Tuscan landscape goes hand in hand with a modern vision of winemaking.
