Sierra Cantabria
Sierra Cantabria was founded in 1957 and is located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra in the heart of the Rioja (Alavesa) region. The winery is owned by the Eguren family, who have owned vineyards here since 1870, in some of the best locations (terroirs) in the entire Rioja region. Today, it is led by brothers Marcos and Miguel Eguren.
Sustainability is central to the Eguren family. The vineyards have been cultivated according to organic viticulture principles for more than thirty years. Chemical pesticides have therefore not been used for a long time. The Sierra Cantabria vineyards are protected from cold northern winds by the Sierra Cantabria mountain range of the same name.
The vineyard locations differ from each other in altitude, soil composition, aspect, and the age of the vines. They all benefit from the confluence of Atlantic and Mediterranean climatic influences. Each vineyard therefore has its own character, and it is these distinct character (terroir) traits that the Eguren family aims to reflect in their wines.
In recent years, Sierra Cantabria has become one of the top estates in Rioja. Year after year, their wines receive awards.
