Terras Gauda

Bodegas Terras Gauda is a relatively young winery from northwestern Spain, yet it has quickly established itself as one of the benchmarks in the region. The estate was founded in 1989 in O Rosal, a subzone of Rías Baixas, near the Portuguese border. At that time, the region was only just appearing on the international wine map, primarily thanks to fresh white wines based on Albariño.

From the very beginning, Terras Gauda chose a slightly different approach. Instead of focusing exclusively on Albariño, the winery worked with a blend of local grape varieties such as Albariño, Loureiro, and Caíño Blanco. The latter grape, in particular, played an important role in their history: Caíño Blanco had almost disappeared, but Terras Gauda helped to reintroduce and add value to this variety. This gave their wines an extra dimension in terms of aroma and structure.

Over the years, the winery grew significantly, both in production and reputation. What started with a few tens of thousands of bottles per year evolved into a modern producer with a strong international presence. Yet, the philosophy remained the same: working with indigenous grapes, preserving the Atlantic character of the region, and vinifying each grape variety separately before creating a balanced blend.

Today, Terras Gauda is known for its expressive and gastronomic white wines, which are often slightly more complex and fuller than the classic Albariño style. In doing so, the winery perfectly represents the modern evolution of Rías Baixas: faithful to tradition, but with a clear focus on quality and refinement.
