The Enemy

El Enemigo is a relatively young but influential wine project from Argentina, founded in 2009 by Alejandro Vigil and Adrianna Catena, daughter of the famous wine family behind Catena Zapata.

The project was born from a shared vision: to make wines that are not only technically perfect, but also tell a story. The name El Enemigo (“the enemy”) symbolically refers to the inner struggle of man – a philosophical concept that is central to their identity.

From the beginning, the focus was on high-altitude vineyards in Mendoza, at the foot of the Andes. Here, they combine traditional European influences with Argentine terroirs. They work with grapes such as Malbec and Cabernet Franc, as well as techniques inspired by old wine regions like Bordeaux and Italy.

Due to their unique style – powerful yet refined wines with structure and freshness – El Enemigo quickly gained international recognition. Their Cabernet Franc and Gran Enemigo wines in particular are often praised by critics and are among the best in Argentina.

Today, El Enemigo is known as one of the most characterful wineries in Mendoza, where tradition, philosophy, and innovation come together in wines with a distinct identity.
