Merum Priorati
Some wine regions simply have that little extra: Mosel, Côte-Rôtie, Douro. Priorat in Catalonia (Spain) has it too. The common denominator between these regions? All of them involve extreme viticulture on slopes of weathered slate and schist. It makes for stunning scenery, but winemaking in Priorat is no ‘walk in the park’. The landscape demands respect from everyone who works there.
At Merum Priorati, the youngest winery within the Pere Ventura Family Wine Estates, they are more than happy to show that respect. Because they know that the rugged Mediterranean mountain land produces exceptional wines from (old-vine) Grenache Noir and Carignan, supplemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Powerful wines, with high alcohol, that are nevertheless elegant and balanced due to good acidity and ripe tannins.
