Château Phélan Ségur produces a classic Saint-Estèphe that beautifully combines power and elegance. The wine is primarily composed of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, supplemented by smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This results in a wine with a deep ruby color, a complex bouquet, and an excellent structure.
In the glass, the wine opens with aromas of blackcurrants, cassis, blackberries, and ripe cherries, supported by subtle notes of cedar, graphite, tobacco, and spices. As the wine develops, nuances of cocoa, leather, and a hint of vanilla also emerge.
On the palate, Phélan Ségur is full-bodied and powerful, with ripe tannins that provide structure without appearing harsh. Fresh acidity gives the wine balance and length, while the fruit is beautifully interwoven with the oak aging. The finish is long, elegant, and mineral, a typical characteristic of the best wines from Saint-Estèphe.
When young, the wine offers plenty of fruit and energy, but after a few years of bottle aging, it develops additional complexity and finesse. Depending on the vintage, it can easily age for 10 to 20 years, and often longer.
